Stokes Partnership for Children administers the NC Pre-K program. This means that all applications for NC Pre-K are processed and eligibility determined at Stokes Partnership for Children. Classrooms are located in the public schools, Head Start, and private child care centers.

Families can now apply online using a computer, tablet or smartphone using the link below. We also accept paper applications, which families can download (PDF fillable version below) and complete. Families may also request an application be mailed to them. NC Pre-K is a statewide initiative to provide a high quality pre-kindergarten experience for at-risk 4 year olds to prepare them to enter school the following year.  It is a full-day (6.5 hours) program, Monday – Friday, following the Stokes County School system’s calendar year.
 
Age Requirements

1.    A child must turn 4 years old on or before August 31st of the program year.
2.    Children who are age eligible for kindergarten cannot be served with NCPK funds. 

 

Income Requirements: A child that meets the age requirements is eligible for NC Pre-K if the child is from a family whose gross income is at or below 75% of the State Median Income level.
 

Other ways a child may qualify include:

  • Child (family size of 8 or less) is receiving Public Assistance

  • WIC

  • Public Housing

  • TANF/Work First

  • Medicaid

  • SSI

  • Food and Nutrition Services (Food Stamps)

  • SNAP

  • Child of eligible military families;

  • Child whose family is experiencing homelessness;

  • Child with an identified disability or developmental/educational need;

  • Child with limited English-speaking skills;

  • Child living in foster care, kinship care or with a legal guardian;

  • Child receiving refugee services;

  • Child with a diagnosed chronic health condition, documented as having the potential to interfere with the child’s development and learning as determined by a health care professional.

NC Pre-K requires certain documents to verify eligibility. Families can securely upload these to the online application. They can also submit them via mail to Stokes Partnership for Children at PO Box 2319 in King, fax to 336-985-3302, email to scox@stokespfc.com or drop off in a locked dropbox outside the Stokes Partnership for Children office at 151 Jefferson Church Rd., Suite 104 in King.
 
Information needed to complete the application:

1.    Completed/Signed Application
2.    Verification of all Household Income (pay stubs or 1040 tax forms, child support, etc.) 
3.    Verification of birthdate (Copy of Child’s Certified Birth Certificate or Immunization Records) 

 

*Applications will not be complete until all required documentation is received.*

 

Although applications will continue to be accepted, the first deadline for eligibility and placement determination will be May 14th.
