Dear Friend of Stokes County’s Young Children (and Bluegrass),
BBQ for Books with a Side of Bluegrass is an annual fundraiser to benefit early literacy and other underfunded early childhood programs of Stokes Partnership for Children. Unfortunately, and I am sure it comes as no surprise, we have decided to cancel the event this year due to COVID-19. Though necessary, it presents a challenge since our programs and our children and families remain dependent on the proceeds that BBQ for Books with a Side of Bluegrass provides. Last year we raised $35,000 from this event alone, so you can see how this might impact our ability to provide the programs listed below. To help cushion the blow, would you be willing to make a donation to Stokes Partnership for Children to help during these unprecedented times? Here is a little detail about the programs this event traditionally funds:
Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library - 1,350 children are now enrolled! Dolly makes it easier for us by keeping our portion of the cost as low as possible, but our part can add up. On the average our cost is $25 to $30 per child, per year.
Reach Out and Read – Currently, we are providing 204 books annually to LifeBrite Pediatric Clinic of Danbury. We are also excited to fund a new program at Novant Health Pediatrics in King that is estimated to provide 500 books annually for the young children they serve.
Hundreds of FREE resources for check-out available to the public through the Lending Library, such as books, puppets, puzzles, activity boxes and much more.
In the past year, we have purchased and then loaned out more than 25 text books to college students enrolled in an early childhood degree program.
Over 200 books are given away annually at community events like our Little Folks Festival.
Because of the success of this event, we have been able to use proceeds to help support other underfunded programs that focus on family support, health, and early care and education.
To donate, it is as simple as writing a check and mailing it to Stokes Partnership for Children, PO Box 2319, King, NC 27021 or you may make your donation online through PayPal from the link below.
Lastly, we do have some fun planned for the week that BBQ for Books with a Side of Bluegrass would have been held. Beginning September 28 and concluding October 2, 2020, we will host a social media blitz that will feature testimonials by those participating in our programs, including children and families. We may even have a little bluegrass for you. Stay tuned to our Facebook page for more details.
Thank you for supporting early childhood programs in Stokes County!
